Roles and Responsibilities

Commercial photographers in advertising and marketing are responsible for creating visually appealing and high-quality images that effectively communicate the message of a product or service. They work closely with art directors, creative directors, and clients to understand the desired concept and aesthetic, and then use their technical skills and creative vision to bring that concept to life through photography. They may also be responsible for organizing and managing photoshoots, including coordinating with models, stylists, and other vendors, as well as post-processing and retouching images.

Qualifications and Experience

Commercial photographers typically have a degree in photography or a related field, and may have several years of experience working in the industry. My goal is to develop a strong portfolio that demonstrates technical proficiency and ability to create visually appealing and effective images.

Skills and Attributes Required

Strong technical skills in photography, including an understanding of lighting, composition, and post-processing. Excellent creative vision and ability to understand and execute a desired concept or aesthetic. Strong communication and project management skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

The reasons for my choice

Commercial photography in advertising and marketing is an exciting and challenging field that allows me to combine my passion for photography with my interest in advertising and marketing. I have attended webinars and talks with industry partners that have given me a deeper understanding of the industry and the various roles and responsibilities within it. I have also been able to gain insights into the skills and attributes that are required to be successful in this field and I believe that my technical skills, creative vision, and communication and project management skills are well-suited to this field. I am excited about the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects and collaborate with a team of creative professionals.

My Career Path

To achieve a similar job title, I plan to build on my portfolio by volunteering as a photographer, go for photoshoots, and taking up gigs.

I plan on taking on a part-time undergraduate course on Introduction to Film Studies (FLM101) from SUSS

I would then use these portfolios and knowledge to apply for film schools and try to attain a Bachelor of Arts in film.
